Rented Local ("we", "us", "our") operates a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects neighbours across Canada to rent and lend equipment and services. We take your  privacy seriously and collect only the information we need to run bookings, payouts, identity verification, and support. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

1. What we collect

• Account information — name, email address, and password (stored securely by our auth provider).
• Profile information — display name, location, bio, and profile photo you choose to add.
• Listing & booking  data — details of gear or services you list,  rental dates, messages between renters and owners, and photos you upload for pickup/return records.
• Identity & trust documents — government ID photos and selfies used only to verify identity at booking or pickup, as described at signup.
• Payment information — processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We never store full card numbers on our servers.
• Usage data — pages viewed, search queries, and device information used to improve search and reliability.

2. How we use it

• To create and manage your account and listings.
• To process rental requests, payments, deposits, refunds, and owner payouts.
• To verify identity for safety and to meet legal obligations for marketplaces operating in Canada.
• To send booking confirmations, reminders, and support replies, and (with consent) product updates.
• To investigate disputes, fraud, and policy violations.
• To improve search relevance, personalization, and site performance.

3. Sharing & third parties

We share data only as needed to operate the platform: with our payment provider (Stripe) for card processing and payouts, our email provider to deliver transactional messages, and hosting and analytics services. We never sell your personal information. We may disclose data when legally required or to protect the safety of users and the public.

4. Cookies & session analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. We also use two tools that record how visitors use the site, to help us fix bugs and improve the experience:

• Microsoft Clarity — records anonymized clicks, scrolling, and page navigation (session replay) and generates heatmaps. It does not knowingly collect passwords or payment card details.
• Base44 session recording — our application platform's built-in analytics, which similarly records in-app usage and navigation to help us diagnose issues and improve performance.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services and meet legal, tax, and accounting requirements in Canada. Identity verification records are retained only for the period required for trust and compliance, then deleted.

We use encryption in transit, restricted internal access, and secure authentication. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

7. Your rights

You can access, correct, or delete your personal data from your account settings, and you may contact us to request export or deletion. Withdrawals of consent do not affect the lawfulness of processing already carried out.

8. Children

The platform is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
