Blackcomb Mountain Runs: Where to Ski Big Vertical and Glacier Views

The best Blackcomb Mountain runs, from 7th Heaven and the Horstman Glacier to steeps and tree skiing, with tips for every ability.

ViewCensus Data

Blackcomb is known for its steep fall lines, glacier terrain and a feeling of being a little more remote than its neighbour. It is a favourite for advanced skiers and for anyone chasing late-season snow.

7th Heaven and the Horstman Glacier

The high-alpine lifts open up some of the best spring and early-summer snow in the region. Wide groomers off 7th Heaven are perfect for confident intermediates, with bowls and open faces for anyone who wants more.

Steeps and cruisers

  • Blackcomb's Cruiser and Lower Cruiser: fast, wide and ideal for warm-up laps.
  • Jersey Cream Bowl and the Blow Hole area: rollers and steeper faces that reward a good edge.
  • Gemini and the Catskinner area: mellow mid-mountain runs for lunch-time laps.
  • Couloir Extreme: one of the most serious inbounds lines in the resort. Expert only.

Blackcomb Glacier

The glacier lifts and Blackcomb Glacier access routes lead to beautiful lines, but glacier travel and avalanche terrain need proper training. Treat it as expert terrain and ski with a guide if you are unsure.

Best time to go

Blackcomb usually stays open later in spring than Whistler, so it is a great choice for April and May trips. Warm afternoons soften the snow, so ski the sunny faces late and the shady ones first thing.

What to bring

Layers, goggles for bright glacier days and a helmet. If you would rather not fly with a bag, rent your setup locally.
