Revelstoke Gear Rental Guide: Skiing, Biking & Backcountry Adventures
Revelstoke is quietly becoming one of the world's most coveted mountain destinations. The numbers speak for themselves: the highest annual snowfall of any ski resort in North America (averaging over 15 metres at the summit), a vertical drop of 1,713 metres — the longest in Canada — and a mountain biking trail network that rivals Whistler for technical challenge.
And yet it still has a small-town soul. The locals are proud, the gear is serious, and the rental-from-a-local model fits perfectly here.
Winter: Ski & Snowboard Season (Nov–Apr)
What to Rent
Skis: Revelstoke's terrain rewards fat powder skis (100mm+ underfoot). The kind you'd never buy for a one-week trip. Borrow a local's powder setup and experience the mountain the way it's meant to be experienced.
Splitboards: Revelstoke's backcountry access is extraordinary. If you're a competent splitboarder, renting a setup (board + skins + bindings) from a local with avalanche knowledge is invaluable. Many will throw in route beta.
Avalanche Safety Gear: Beacon, probe, shovel — non-negotiable for any off-piste travel. Rent the full kit.
Ski Boots: This one's personal. If you have your own boots, bring them. If not, rental boots from a local who's the same size and foot type is often more comfortable than generic shop stock.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort vs. Cat Skiing
RMR is the main resort — world-class, accessible, and vast. But Revelstoke is also ground zero for cat skiing (Selkirk Tangiers, Mustang Powder) and heli-skiing (CMH). If you're doing a cat or heli day, gear requirements are different — your guide company will specify.
Summer: Biking & Hiking Season (Jun–Sep)
Mountain Biking
Revelstoke Bike Park runs July–September and features everything from flowy beginner trails to gnarly black diamonds. The trail network extends well beyond the bike park into machine-built epics and hand-cut singletracks.
Rent locally:
- Full-suspension trail bike (140–160mm travel for Revy's chunky terrain)
- Full-face helmet for park riding
- Body armour (back protector, knee pads at minimum)
- Dropper post essential — don't ride Revy without one
Hiking & Backcountry
Mt. Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park offer world-class hiking from late July through September. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway takes you to sub-alpine terrain with almost no effort, while the Keystone-Standard Basin loop is a full-day epic.
Rent: Trekking poles, bear spray, GPS device, and a quality backpacking tent if you're doing multi-day routes.
The Revelstoke Rental Advantage
Revelstoke locals tend to be serious athletes. The person renting you their skis probably has a turns-per-season count that makes your head spin. That comes with the gear — ask questions, get beta, make your trip better.
List your gear if you're a local. Revelstoke's growing tourism means demand is real and seasonal income can be significant.
